Where to go from here? Post-grad mayhem!
I am always up for a challenge and finding my place in the world is the ultimate goal. I've recently come to realize that I'm not going to be comfortable overnight, especially still being pretty fresh out of school. I shouldn't complain though-- I'm doing well for myself, having graduated two years early from school with over three years of industry experience under my belt. I completely provide and support myself but it hasn't been easy to get here. When I graduated, I had one goal: Find a job in my field and make it in the city on my own. Now that I've met that goal, I'm trying to figure out what the next step is.
A couple of my friends and I have been talking about long term ideas. We've shared our plans in word documents and excel spreadsheets, over social media, at parties and over dinner.
Here are a list of my short term and long term goals that I'll be focusing on in the upcoming months.
Short term:
-Read tarot cards regularly.
-Publish at least three pieces a month.
-Have steady freelance journalistic work at all times.
-Find a stable, salaried position.
Long term:
-Continue to write every day.
-Edit my work for publication and submit.
-Continue to write my novella.
-Keep tabs of my writing open on my computer to focus on fiction at all times.
It's not that I don't have a big imagination, I just prefer attainable goals. I like making plans that I can feasibly follow through with. None of the above tasks are very difficult but I know that they are key components of my personal well being and creative outlet
Here are a few more goals that are more novelty but will influence my work in other ways:
-Read at least two books a month.
-Work out at least once a week.
-Learn how to take better photos.
-Pick a language and start learning it in my freetime.
-Play more bass guitar and write some music.
-Try to go on at least one small vacation or trip a year.
Again, these are pretty attainable ideas, but I'll definitely be able to look back on this list in a year and feel accomplished!
